Ramesh Mamidala

Air India

Head Cargo

Mr. Ramesh Mamidala is a veteran aviation and air-cargo expert who most recently served as Head of Cargo at Air India Ltd., where he led the airline’s cargo commercial strategy and operations during a pivotal period of growth and transformation following its integration under the Tata Group. In this role, he championed initiatives to expand Air India’s cargo business — including enhanced pharmaceutical logistics with Good Distribution Practices (GDP) certification, making Air India the only Indian carrier with trained staff to handle sensitive medical shipments to global destinations — and the launch of airport-to-door delivery services that deepen the airline’s end-to-end freight capability.

With over 30 years of experience in the air-cargo and logistics industry, Ramesh brings a distinguished track record that spans senior roles with major global and regional players. His career includes long tenures with Emirates Group, where he led cargo infrastructure and product development, and leadership positions with Qatar Airways, Celebi Delhi Cargo Terminal Management — where he oversaw the Delhi cargo hub as CEO — and Adani Airports Holdings Ltd., managing cargo and ground-handling businesses.

Beyond operational leadership, he represented Air India on the Air Cargo Forum India (ACFI) governing board, serving as Vice President and contributing to broader industry dialogue on air-cargo infrastructure, policy and ecosystem development.

Under his stewardship, Air India Cargo expanded its global footprint, enhanced perishables and cold-chain capabilities — such as facilitating increased international mango shipments with sophisticated temperature control systems — and strengthened its role as a key freight carrier connecting India with markets across Asia, Europe and the Americas.

Mr. Mamidala’s leadership reflects a deep commitment to logistics excellence, product innovation and cargo commercial growth, combining strategic vision with extensive operational expertise in one of the world’s most dynamic sectors.
